How can I prevent birds from crashing into the window?

Birds often mistake windows for openings they can fly through and crash right into them. Applying window clings to the glass is a simple way to help redirect birds. Another option is a fine plastic mesh installed a few inches from the outside of the window to soften the blow if a bird flies into it. See Wally's Workbench for window clings.
