Not Included (or Necessary): Animals Under the Tree
MILWAUKEE
? Thinking about getting
someone a four-legged companion for the holidays?
Is ?fuzzy puppy? a reoccurring item on your children's
holiday list? Hundreds of animals are in need of
caring homes this season, and contrary to popular
belief, animals can make excellent gifts for your
loved ones.
Research
shows that people who receive a companion animal
as a gift make great guardians. They are no more
or less likely to be returned than animals adopted
by the owners themselves. Because of this research,
the Wisconsin Humane Society offers a Gift of Companionship
program. Gift adoptions include the companion animal
and a $25 certificate redeemable within two weeks
after the gift giving date at Animal Antics, the
retail store located within WHS.
Those
interested in gift adoptions must provide specific
information about the recipient so counselors can
match all personalities involved. Numerous safeguards
are in place to ensure that the animal will be well
cared for. The Wisconsin Humane Society also follows
up with adopters, and continues to provide support
and assistance.
WHS
also recommends gift certificates for adoption fees
or merchandise at the Animal Antics store. The gift
certificate can be purchased for any amount and
used by the bearer to cover part or the entire adoption
fee for any animal at WHS, allowing the recipient
to choose which animal they would like to adopt
after meeting the animal.
