MEDIA ADVISORY/PHOTO OPPORTUNITY

Bugs Bunny, Peter Cottontail?and Cadbury?

MILWAUKEE ? You hear about famous bunnies such as Bugs Bunny, Peter Cottontail and the Easter Bunny all the time ? they can be found in children's storybooks or in the malls prior to the Easter holiday. The Wisconsin Humane Society has welcomed Cadbury, a bunny who could easily join the ranks of famous bunnyhood.

What makes Cadbury unique is his rare breed ? he is an Astrex rabbit, one of approximately only 125 curly haired bunnies known to exist. Astrex rabbits are near complete extinction, with an estimated population of less than one percent of the entire rabbit population.

An Astrex rabbit was bred many years ago in France before the turn of the 19 th century and also in England in the 1930s and 1940s. It is unknown as to why Astrex rabbits came close to complete extinction.
