MEDIA ADVISORY/PHOTO OPPORTUNITY

Great Blue Heron to “Soar to Great Heights”

MILWAUKEE – Celebrate life with the Wisconsin Humane Society Wildlife Rehabilitation Center staff as they release a Great Blue Heron. “Jade” was admitted to the Wildlife Hospital on August 1 in serious condition – weak, very thin and dehydrated.

The young heron didn't have the opportunity to perfect his hunting skills before the summer temperatures soared into the high 90's. Jade was found highly stressed and overheated on a busy corner in downtown Milwaukee. He was well below what is considered to be a healthy weight, weighing only 75% of what he should.

The wildlife team worked quickly, treating Jade with an electrolyte, glucose and water solution to combat dehydration. Two weeks of top-notch care, including a diet of 100 fish a day, has Jade fully hydrated, his weight is where it should be and he is ready to take flight!
