The
Truth About Cats' Lives
MILWAUKEE
– Murphy is a cat that loves to sun bathe
outdoors, never wears an identification collar and
hasn't been neutered. Unfortunately, he's
in good company. In an effort to educate the
public about ways cats like Murphy can lead long,
healthy lives, the Wisconsin Humane Society offers
the following truths:
· As tempting
as it may be for Murphy to receive a suntan, keep
your cat indoors! Outdoors cats are at far
greater risk for illness and injury.
· Show
off your kitty's beautiful neckline by displaying
a collar and identification tag. Your cat
can also get a “stamp of approval” with an identifying
microchip, which helps to get your cat back, if
lost.
· No need
to sign up your feline for a gym membership.
Give your cat regular exercise in the comfort of
your own home by having him play with toys each
day.
· Don't let Frisky get frisky! Spay
or neuter your cat. This surgery helps reduce
overpopulation and has numerous health benefits.
WHS spays or neuters all animals before they are
adopted and also offers a Spay Neuter Assistance
Program for individuals of qualifying incomes.

· It's
okay for your cat to scratch the furniture – scratching
post furniture, that is. Provide Pumpkin with
a quality scratching post, which will help prevent
her from damaging household property.
· Go ahead
and “gossip” to your neighbors, family and friends
about keeping their cats indoors.
