MEDIA ADVISORY/PHOTO OPPORTUNITY

Twelve-Year-Old “Animal Trainers” in the Making

MILWAUKEE – Ever try training your pooch how to sit or shake? Although seemingly easy, often times this can be a time-consuming task. However, 12 children were up for the challenge as they participated in the Wisconsin Humane Society's People Animals Learning (PAL) Program. These children will demonstrate their skills during the PAL graduation on Friday, August 12 beginning at noon.

WHAT:
PAL Graduation

WHEN:
Friday, August 12, 2005
Noon to 1 p.m.

WHERE:
Wisconsin Humane Society
4500 W. Wisconsin Ave.
Milwaukee, WI 53208

WHY:
Twelve Milwaukee-area students, ages 10 to 13, will graduate from the violence prevention PAL Program and show off their newly learned dog training skills to parents and friends. During the ceremony, the children will demonstrate how they trained the dogs to perform basic cues such as sit, down and stay.

PAL provides the children with positive experiences working with animals like teaching Wisconsin Humane Society dogs appropriate manners; learning the value of hard work, cooperation and compassion; and experiencing success using positive means.

PAL is a nationally recognized violence prevention program developed by the Wisconsin Humane Society to teach at-risk youth kindness and empathy.
