URGENT -- CALL TO ACTION ADVISORY

Wisconsin Humane Society Encourages the Community

to Voice Objections Against Goose Slaughter

MILWAUKEE – In an effort to control the Canada Goose population, the Milwaukee County Parks Department has obtained a permit to round up and kill geese in County Parks this summer.

However, the Wisconsin Humane Society believes that “habitat modification” – changing the landscape features in the parks to make them less attractive to geese – the continued use of non-toxic repellents and the continued use of egg-addling by Parks employees provide the best long-term, humane solution to problems with geese and their droppings in the parks.

The Wisconsin Humane Society urges Milwaukee County residents to call their Milwaukee County Supervisor to voice their opinion about the County's proposed killing of Canada Geese in the Parks.

Scott Diehl, Wildlife manager at the Wisconsin Humane Society, involved in implementing humane techniques for controlling the impact of the goose population in Milwaukee will be available to talk with the media about this issue and discuss humane solutions for controlling geese. To schedule a time to talk with Scott, please call Michelle Pintar at (414) 431-6104.
