Lucy needs holiday heroes.

We are so thrilled to announce that we have surpassed our fundraising goal for little Lucy AND an anonymous donor was so inspired by her story that she decided to match contributions to help Lucy and other animals in need! Our community never ceases to amaze us. You are all wonderful, compassionate, and generous - thank you so much!

Lucy was a matted mess when she first came to the Wisconsin Humane Society, but her injuries were far worse than even we suspected. The little pumpkin, a Shih Tzu, was full of kisses when she arrived, but she couldn’t bear any weight on her back right leg and hobbled around in pain.

Our veterinarians sedated Lucy to remove the extreme matting and discovered something horrific. The mats on her back leg had wrapped themselves so tightly around her ankle that they became deeply embedded in her skin, exposing bone and tendon. The tissue was red and raw and seriously infected. She had been suffering like that for some time.

We gently cleaned Lucy’s wound, treated her for pain, removed all her mats, and bandaged her leg to allow her to heal. We dressed her in a sweater to keep her warm and cozy. And we promised Lucy that she’d never suffer like that again.

Lucy is resting now in our ICU and we’re hopeful for a full recovery, but she still needs round-the-clock care to monitor her condition. Will you help Lucy by making a donation for her medical care?

You can donate here, or even make a donation in honor or memory of someone you love. It’s your support that makes it possible for us to provide top-notch care for animals like Lucy and we couldn’t do it without the generosity of people like you.

Lucy will be starting 2016 with a healthier, more hopeful future. Thank you for helping make that happen.
