Dogs rescued from hoarding situation
MILWAUKEE - Earlier today, we assisted the South Wood County Humane Society in Wisconsin Rapids with a surrender of 74 dogs.
We transported 40 of those dogs back to the Milwaukee area. Of those dogs, 30 are at WHS and 10 are with our friends at Elmbrook Humane Society. All the dogs we've met so far seem to be Poodles or Australian Shepherds, or mixes therof. They are filthy and some have wounds on their paws from standing in urine or feces for long periods of time.
Our medical and behavior staff are meeting with them on Thursday and it's possible that some dogs will be available for adoption as soon as this Friday.
In the meantime, if you’d like to support the Wisconsin Humane Society's rescue efforts with a monetary contribution, you can do so here: http://bit.ly/WiRapidsRescue.
It’s your support that makes it possible for us to respond so quickly whenever – and wherever – animals are in need. At this time, we are also in high need of foster homes; will you consider opening your heart and home to a temporary guest? Visit www.wihumane.org/foster to learn more and get started. Thank you so much!
