My two favorite things about Zelda Mae: She just wants to be loved. I have never met anyone that hasn’t fallen for her right away. I also really love her ears. When she was little, one would stand up straight and the other was floppy giving her a goofy look. It still happens sometimes and it melts my heart every time.

What are your two favorite things about Zelda Mae? She just wants to be loved. I have never met anyone that hasn’t fallen for her right away. I also really love her ears. When she was little, one would stand up straight and the other was floppy giving her a goofy look. It still happens sometimes and it melts my heart every time.
How long have you had Zelda Mae? About three and a half years.
Where did you get Zelda Mae? Last Paw Rescue
Has Zelda Mae ever bitten someone? No
What, if any, medical or behavioral concerns does Zelda Mae have? Very mild food aggression- she is generally very submissive. Small tear in her ACL in her right back leg. Only causes her to limp if she plays really hard. Easily treated with doggie NSAIDS. Missing one of her canine teeth. She broke it and it was extracted with no complications. It has caused no problems.
Has Zelda Mae lived with other animals? Yes
If yes to the above, which animals has Zelda Mae lived with? She lives with 2 American short hair cats. She allows them to snuggle with her. She gets anxious when they are chasing each other around like maniacs and will cry. She is easily soothed by reassurance from mom.
Has Zelda Mae actively fought with other animals in the home? No
Does/did Zelda Mae hide from other animals in the home? No
How does Zelda Mae interact with animals outside of the home? She is generally very friendly and wants to make friends and play. She is a little wary of small dogs but warms quickly. At the kennel they keep her in smaller groups because she gets overstimulated when in large groups of other dogs. There has only been one time I have seen her be afraid/aggressive with another dog and that was with a very large dog who was aggressive towards her first.
Are you requiring that Zelda Mae not go into a family with certain types of pets? No
Has Zelda Mae lived with any children under 18? No
Does/did Zelda Mae hide or avoid children in the home? No
Does/did Zelda Mae display any forms of aggression toward children in the home? No
Are you requiring that Zelda Mae not go into a family with children under a certain age? Yes
If yes to the above, please list your restrictions: Zelda would be better with kids over 5, not because of any aggressive behavior, but because she loves to play and she is a larger dog. My fear would be that she would get too excited and knock a small child over.
Does Zelda Mae have any fears? Loud noises like the garbage truck and vacuume. She deals with it by hiding in a cleared out spot under my bed. As long as she has her own safe space the is relatively enclosed she will do fine. She is anxious in new situations sometimes. If you are patient and reassuring she warms up quickly. She has separation anxiety if you leave her alone somewhere other than home. She roams free in the house while I am at work and does fine. It would probably be best to crate her when leaving when you first get her. She is a bit of an escape artist when it comes to wire crates though.
Zelda Mae's overall activity level: Moderately active
How does Zelda Mae usually get exercise? Playing while tethered outside, Playing indoors, Doggie daycare, Dog parks,
What should the next family should know about Zelda Mae: Zelda loves to be loved and she returns it in spades. She is a rescue who was abandoned as a very small puppy with her 3 sisters. She was found in a ditch down south and brought to WI by a rescue. She was the most submissive of the liter and got looked over by a lot of people who came to her foster mom’s place. I fell in love with her the instant I saw her picture. She was skittish at first, and can be still at times, but she has grown to be very protective of me and our home. I wish to God I did not have to rehome her.
