Level 1- Companion Animal Volunteer
Positions
All volunteers start
at Level I and remain at this level for five weeks.
The Level I phase allows volunteers time to become comfortable
with our facility and staff while assisting with
various administrative, cleaning and maintenance
duties. Level I positions include the following:
Adoption Avenue Cleaning
Crew
Adoption Avenue cleaners take part in maintenance
and cleaning duties in and around Adoption Avenue.
This role is a tremendous help to WHS staff, enabling
them to provide more hands-on care for the animals.
Level I volunteers help to maintain a clean and
healthy environment for the animals and ensure that
visitors always experience a clean shelter environment.
Volunteers set up classrooms for meetings, maintain
our Newsroom, clean Adoption Avenue windows, sweep
floors in Dog Town, dust window ledges and frames,
and more.
WHS Shelter Crew
Handy, energetic
people are needed to give the shelter its shine!
Be the star behind the scenes by assisting with
cleaning and maintenance duties in our Guest Lodging
area. As you can imagine, much goes on to keep our
facility up and running! We could not do it without
the help of our volunteers. In this position, you
will be helping with laundry (washing, drying, and
folding), mopping hallways, maintaining our Doggie
Day Spa, and preparing enrichment toys for our dogs.
Grounds Crew
Grounds Crew volunteers
help the WHS staff keep the outside of our shelter
as warm and inviting as the inside. Volunteers on
the Grounds Crew help pick up trash, pull weeds,
mow the yard and plant and water the flowers. These
efforts make the shelter grounds appealing to all
who pass by. This position is seasonal - from April
through November.
Office Hopper
Our Office Hopper
volunteers help WHS staff with a variety of office
projects! Volunteer opportunities include filing,
word processing, mailings, record keeping, and photocopying.
Volunteers may also assemble adoption materials
that are given to clients who adopt! This position
offers a flexible schedule.
Again, all Level
I opportunities are a 5-week minimum duration. With
further training and expertise, volunteers may progress
to Level II. If you would
like to become a Companion Animal Program volunteer,
please submit an online
volunteer application.
