Level III- Companion Animal Volunteer
Positions
Level III volunteer
opportunities are awarded to volunteers who display
exceptional animal handling techniques and are recommended
by a staff member or trainer for advancement. Level
III positions require a commitment of at least two
hours per week for a minimum of six months. Training
is provided for each of the following opportunities:
Bow
Wow Basics
Bow Wow
Basics is a reward-based training program that will
help every dog to leave the shelter better physically,
emotionally, and behaviorally than when they arrived.
By implementing the program, it is hoped the dogs
will make a better impression on potential adopters
and also help them transition into their new homes
with a basic training vocabulary. The minimum age
for this position is 18 years old or 12 years old
with a parent.
Veterinary Services Assistant
This volunteer
position would be an ideal starting point for individuals
interested in becoming a Veterinarian. Vet Services
Assistants have the opportunity to help our Veterinary
Technicians with a variety of duties including:
providing medication, preparing animals for surgery,
cleaning, and other preparations or treatments.
The minimum age for this position is 18 years or
older.
Purrfect
Cat Socializers
Purrfect Cat Socializers
provide more advanced training techniques to our
cats as well as additional enrichment.
Level IV - Companion Animal Volunteer
Positions
Top Dogs and Top Cats
All of the dogs
and cats at the Wisconsin Humane Society are evaluated
for temperament prior to being placed for adoption.
Some animals require extra socialization and behavior
training. Volunteers who have been invited to work
with these animals will assist in this special training.
The Top Dog and Top Cat programs are separate and
require training that is specific to each animal.
Volunteers for this position must be 18 years or
older.
