Vera is a Red-eyed Vireo.

Red-eyed vireos are birds of the forest, and as such, are more often heard than seen. But they are common birds in the right habitat, even in suburban parks and yards with sufficient numbers of mature trees.

Rehabilitating Vera

Vera had been injured when she collided with a window.

She spent a few weeks in our wildlife hospital where staff and volunteers cared for her and monitored her progress.

Thanks to the great care she received at the WHS Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, Vera recovered fully. She was released north of Milwaukee so she could continue her northward migration.

Hope's Lights 2014

Each year we illuminate the shelter and grounds at the Wisconsin Humane Society with holiday lights in honor and in memory of special people and animals in our lives. Please help us kick off the season of giving with a gift to Hope’s Lights. Every $25 light makes a real difference in the life of an animal.
