Tiny Tony
Tiny Tony (or Mr. Bologna Sandwich as his foster mom calls him) certainly is a petite and adorable little guy. But as adorable as he is, there are some serious things you should know about Tony, so let's get those out of the way. This will be long, but we promise it's worth it so we can find Tony's new family. We know he can be a lot to handle but we also know the right family is out there for Tony.
You see, Tony may be small but he has a big personality. And sometimes, Tony can be quite a sassy boy. Well, that's putting it mildly, but this is a family site so we are keeping it PG.
Tony resource guards his food from the other animals. In fact, if he's not fed in a separate area where he cannot get to the other animals' bowls at meal time, then he'll gulp down his food so he can push the other animals out of their bowls and eat all of their food. And he doesn't care if it's a 5 pound cat whose food he's trying to steal or a 60 pound dog. Tony thinks he can take any of them on when it comes to food. So for his safety (and everyone else's) Tony needs to be fed separately from all other animals.
Tony can be snappy - when he needed eye meds, we had to medicate him to help him relax and then muzzle him and only then would he allow us to apply the eye meds. And sometimes, he would decide he didn't want us to apply his meds and he was always willing to let that be known. Tony does give signals that he is not happy, so it's important to understand dog body language and always be respectful of allowing Tony choices. For this reason, while Tony really loves people, he probably wouldn't do well in a home with small children who don't understand how to ready dog body language.
Tony likes to mark - you know, lift his leg and pee on things. This can easily be dealt with in the house by utilizing belly bands. But we can't say whether Tony will ever grow out of this habit, so it's good that anyone interested in adopting him know that Tony may always need to wear belly bands when in the house. (Or be willing to mop regularly.)
Ok, now that we got the serious, important things out of the way, let's get to the positives. Tony gets along well with dogs - big and small - and even does well with cats. He would do fine as an only dog but also wouldn't mind having a playmate in his new home - he may be a senior but he still has plenty of spunk.
While Tony resource guards his food from the other animals, we have not seen this issue with toys. He loves to gather toys from around the house and bring them into his bed and lay with them. He really likes soft little cat toys.
Tony is an excellent sleeper through the night. He typically sleeps in his dog bed through the night until breakfast. In fact, if you're an "early to bed" type of person, then Tony is your man. He is often in bed by 8 p.m.
Tony rides very well in the car - no anxiety at all. He will typically just lay on a blanket on the seat and nap until you arrive at your destination.
And did we talk about how absolutely adorable Tony is?
