About the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center
The Wisconsin Humane Society Wildlife Rehabilitation Center is a very busy urban wildlife hospital and resource center. With the support of our community, our small team of licensed wildlife rehabilitator staff, an energetic team of seasonal interns, and a dedicated group of enthusiastic and experienced volunteers, we care for over 5000 sick, injured or orphaned wild animals of nearly 150 different species every year. Our goal is to rehabilitate these animals and release them back into the wild. Many of the creatures we care for are familiar backyard animals such as Gray Squirrels, Raccoons, Northern Cardinals, and American Robins, but we also care for many creatures unfamiliar to most people like Least Bitterns, Black-throated Blue Warblers, Northern Saw-whet Owls, Common Nighthawks, Gray Foxes, and many, many more. Some of the animals and birds we receive are even endangered or threatened species, like Peregrine Falcons, Caspian Terns, Yellow Rails, and Big Brown Bats.
Through our Wildlife Hotline we help over 12,000 callers each year to understand animal behaviors that may be associated with “conflicts” with wildlife and provide them with the information they need to humanely and effectively prevent or resolve these conflicts.
