Moxxie was limping and bloody when he approached a stranger looking for help. Noticing the extent of his injuries, they wrapped him in a towel and rushed him to the Wisconsin Humane Society, hoping our vets could save him.
He was covered head to toe in cuts, scabs, and puncture wounds, and his back paw was painfully swollen. Despite whatever trauma Moxxie had endured, he warmed up to our vets immediately. The 3-year-old pup was sweet and cooperative as his many wounds were flushed, cleaned, stitched, and treated. We began meds to fight the infection taking hold of his body and spent every day overseeing the progress of our eager-to-please patient.
As the rest of his body began to heal, his swollen paw showed little improvement, and he was at risk of losing his toe. Tests concluded that the particular infection in his paw was resistant to numerous antibiotics, including the course he was on, and we revised his care plan with a new, more powerful medication.
After more than two months of recovery and foster care, Moxxie was finally cleared to find a family of his own, but he didn't have to look far... he went straight home with one of our volunteer dog walkers who had been smitten from the day they met. ❤
Over the course of a year, we serve more than 40,000 animals and the people who love them. Thousands of animals come through our doors who require varying degrees of treatment, from simple vaccinations to life-saving surgery and extended periods of therapy. As animals heal and await adoption, we’ll meet whatever other needs they have, too. But as you can imagine, the expenses really add up!
