Puppy found with severe injuries to ears recovering at WHS
RACINE - The images are horrific. Molly, a 6-month-old puppy, was found on Monday near Sanders Park in Racine County with her ears nearly severed off, a result of having rubber bands tightly tied around them.
After dropping off her son at school, Colleen Scruggs saw Molly wandering loose near a park and thankfully, pulled over to rescue the injured dog. She brought her to the Wisconsin Humane Society Racine Campus.
“I don’t know a lot about dogs but knew she needed help,” said Scruggs.
Staff at the Wisconsin Humane Society were shocked by the damage to Molly’s ears. Both ears were tied off with small black rubber bands and only a small amount of tissue held Molly’s ears to her head; staff suspect it was the result of a botched attempt to crop her ears at home.
Molly had an initial surgery on Tuesday and is having a follow-up surgery today. Staff report that despite the painful ordeal, she is absolutely wonderful and soaks up all the love and attention she can get.
The cost of Molly’s medical care is likely to exceed $1,500 and WHS is asking for donations to help Molly. To make a contribution, click here or call 414-431-6119.
